Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 8-14

Materials

  • Tail Grizzly fibers (sparse)
  • Body Black wool or floss (full)
  • Rib Flat silver (spiral)
  • Wing PT fibers (flat)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (beard)
  • Head Peacock herl (2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet hook and run black thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a sparse bunch of grizzly hackle fibers as a tail, then catch in flat silver rib.
  3. Wrap black wool or floss forward into a full body to just short of the eye and tie off.
  4. Spiral the flat silver rib forward in 5-6 even turns and secure.
  5. Tie in a beard of grizzly fibers under the throat, reaching to the point.
  6. Set a bunch of pheasant tail fibers flat over the top as a wing, extending to the bend.
  7. Tie in a peacock herl and take 2 turns for a herl head, then whip finish and varnish.
