Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved/klinkhamer-style dry hook (e.g. TMC 2499SP-BL), 10-12
  • Thread Yellow 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail/Extended body Green-dyed elk rump or deer hair (Extended body reaching past the bend)
  • Body Olive-brown material (Dubbing to match the drake)
  • Wing Natural cow elk (Upright stacked bunch)
  • Legs Olive-brown rubber legs (Fine round rubber legs)
  • Hackle Grizzly dyed yellow hackle (One rooster, wrapped)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and build the extended body from elk rump hair reaching about one shank length past the bend, ribbing it with thread for segmentation.
  2. Dub an olive-brown thorax forward over the shank.
  3. Stack and tie in an upright cow-elk wing at the 65% mark, posting it up.
  4. Figure-8 a pair of rubber legs on each side of the thorax.
  5. Wrap the grizzly hackle through the thorax and around the wing base for float.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and add a tiny drop of cement.
