How to tie it
Start the black thread and leave it hanging about a third of the way back from the eye.
Lay one strand of white para-post across the shank at that point, hold it upright and secure it with wraps in front and behind so it cannot spin.
Post the base of the wing with thread wraps to build a 2-3mm post. Hold the post while you tighten each wrap and release for the loose wraps.
Tie the grizzly hackle in against the post, stripping the barbs off one side of the stem if you like, and take a few wraps up the post to set it.
Take the thread back to the bend and tie in three strands of peacock herl.
Bring the thread forward to the eye, then wrap the peacock herl forward in touching turns to just behind the eye, tie off, whip finish there and snip the thread.
Turn the fly vertical in the vise with the hook point up and restart the thread on the post, extending the post a little higher with thread wraps if you need more base for the hackle.
Wind three or four turns of grizzly hackle horizontally around the post, working downward, keep tension on the feather and zigzag the thread under the barbs to catch it off; snip the excess.
Whip finish tight up under the hackle barbs, snip the thread, and trim the white post to about the length of a collar hackle.
