How to tie it
Slide a 5/32 chartreuse slotted tungsten bead onto a size 10 Daiichi 4647 jig hook and start olive thread behind it.
Tie in a strip of pine squirrel zonker for the tail and keep it fairly short. A long strip on a jig hook just fouls around the point.
Peel the fur off the front end of the strip and bind the bare hide down the length of the shank to build a slim body underneath. Using the hide instead of extra dubbing keeps the profile tight and adds nothing that soaks water.
Tie in 5mm olive UV Straggle at the rear.
Wind the Straggle forward in touching turns to the bead and trim out the excess. The Straggle fibres do all the moving, so touching turns give you full coverage without a bulky underbody.
Glue the thread, throw in a whip finish and you are done. It is a simple fly, but it slays, and it is a must-have for fall.
