Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (barbless competition jig), 12-18
  • Thread Black or brown 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Copper or gold slotted tungsten bead (Slotted tungsten, sized to hook)
  • Tail Coq de Leon (Small sparse bunch, half a shank)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire, 4-5 turns)
  • Body Pheasant tail / hare's ear (Thin tapered body)
  • Thorax Peacock or dark ice dub (Small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted tungsten bead against the hook eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Catch in a sparse Coq de Leon tail no longer than half a shank, then bind in the copper wire rib.
  3. Wrap a thin pheasant-tail body forward to the 70% mark, keeping it slim. Half the material you think.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib forward in 4-5 open turns and tie off for durability.
  5. Dub a small peacock or dark ice-dub thorax right behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
