Streamer · Salmon/Steelhead · Steelhead · Salmon · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook 60mm articulation shank rigged to a size 2 stinger hook (up-eye salmon/steelhead), 1-4
- Thread Black or matching (fluorescent when using bright colors) 210 denier
Materials
- Weight/Eyes Black ostrich herl (Medium-large lead dumbbell eyes)
- Tail Black (or pink/blue/purple) material (Two crosscut or magnum rabbit strips, one shank length)
- Flash Silver/holographic Flashabou (8-10 strands)
- Legs Barred to match rubber legs (3-4 pairs Wigglee/spandex wiggle legs)
- Collar/Body Matching leather strip (Palmered schlappen or marabou, 2-3 turns)
How to tie it
- Slide a loop of intruder wire through the shank, seat the stinger hook one shank length back, and start thread at the front.
- Lash the lead dumbbell eyes on top a third of the way back from the eye so the fly rides hook-point-up.
- Tie in two rabbit strips at the rear as a tail, hide side down, tail about one shank length past the bend.
- Add the Flashabou over the tail, then splay 3-4 pairs of spandex wiggle legs along the sides so they kick when stripped.
- Wrap or palmer a schlappen collar behind the eyes, sweeping the fibers back, then build a small ball of dubbing to prop the collar.
- Figure-8 thread around and in front of the eyes to lock everything, whip finish behind the hook eye and cement.
