Savage Flies dressing

  • Hook salmon or 1-2x long wet fly, 4-12
  • Thread Black

Materials

  • Tail Mallard flank over peacock sword
  • Rib Oval Silver Tinsel
  • Body Peacock herl
  • Wing Hen, natural gray or speckled
  • Hackle Black hen

How to tie it

  1. Slide a loop of intruder wire through the shank, seat the stinger hook one shank length back, and start thread at the front.
  2. Lash the lead dumbbell eyes on top a third of the way back from the eye so the fly rides hook-point-up.
  3. Tie in two rabbit strips at the rear as a tail, hide side down, tail about one shank length past the bend.
  4. Add the Flashabou over the tail, then splay 3-4 pairs of spandex wiggle legs along the sides so they kick when stripped.
  5. Wrap or palmer a schlappen collar behind the eyes, sweeping the fibers back, then build a small ball of dubbing to prop the collar.
  6. Figure-8 thread around and in front of the eyes to lock everything, whip finish behind the hook eye and cement.
