Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/midge hook (TMC 2487) with black bead, 18-24
  • Thread Fluorescent fire orange 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Black glass or brass (or tungsten for weight) (1, oversized)
  • Flashabou (rib) Pearl flashabou (1 strand)
  • UV resin (finish) Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide an oversized black bead onto the hook and secure the hook in the vise.
  2. Start the fire orange thread behind the bead and build a small thread head/taper to lock the bead in place.
  3. Tie in a strand of pearl Flashabou along the side of the shank, then wrap the thread back around the bend and forward again, building a smooth, slightly tapered thread body.
  4. Wrap the pearl Flashabou forward in close, fine segments up to the bead to form the rib; tie off behind the bead and trim.
  5. Whip finish behind the bead.
  6. Coat the entire body with a thin layer of UV resin, work it around evenly with a bodkin, and cure for durability and shine.
