Tyer Recipe
Hook 2XL streamer, 8
Thread White or clear (the head is finished with UV resin) 6/0
Materials
Cashmere monkey hair (polar bear substitute) White uni stretch (A small bunch for the belly)
Soft underfur or dubbing Natural cream soft underfur or dubbing (A small pinch for the throat)
Cashmere monkey hair Pale/light olive cashmere monkey hair (A small bunch for the mid layer)
Crystal Flash Orange holographic tinsel (A few staggered strands)
Cashmere monkey hair Orange permanent marker (A small bunch over the back)
Angel hair Rusty olive (A sparse topping)
Stick-on eyes Silver/black eyes (One pair, 1/8")
UV resin Clear uv resin (A thin base coat plus a build coat over the head)
How to tie it
Leave the shank bare, mount the hook and start the thread at the front third of the shank. All the wings are tied in at the head.
Cut a small bunch of white cashmere monkey, cut the butts at an angle so the tips stay tapered rather than square, and tie it in under the shank as the belly.
Add a small pinch of soft underfur beneath that as a throat, which helps taper the head area.
Tie a bunch of pale olive cashmere monkey on top of the shank so it lies back over the white, stacking the colours on top of each other.
Lay several strands of orange Crystal Flash over the back, staggering their lengths rather than cutting them all even.
Tie a bunch of orange cashmere monkey over that, pinch it in place as you wrap, because the material is slippery and wants to slide down to the eye.
Add a sparse topping of rusty olive angel hair over the back.
Build a large, well-shaped thread head, keeping the thread off the area where the eyes will sit, and whip finish.
Give the head a thin base coat of UV resin so the eyes will stick to the waxed thread, cure it, then set a 1/8" stick-on eye on each side.
Coat the whole head over the eyes with UV resin, top and bottom, and cure with the torch/lamp.
