  • Hook 2XL curved caddis/scud hook, 6-10
  • Thread Orange 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold or copper slotted tungsten bead (1 tungsten bead)
  • Weight Lead-free (6-8 wraps behind bead)
  • Abdomen Burnt orange (Dubbing or Antron)
  • Rib Gold middle (Fine wire or oval tinsel)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (Brown partridge or hen fibers)
  • Thorax Dark brown/amber material (Peacock or dark dubbing)
  • Antennae Wood duck (A few fibers (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye, mount the hook, and add 6-8 wraps of lead-free wire behind the bead to sink it deep.
  2. Start orange thread and tie in the gold rib at the bend.
  3. Dub a plump, slightly tapered burnt-orange abdomen forward over the rear two-thirds. October caddis pupae are big and fat, so build some body.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib forward in 5-6 open turns and tie off to segment the abdomen.
  5. Sweep a few brown partridge fibers around the shank as legs, reaching about to the hook point.
  6. Dub a short dark-brown or peacock thorax up to the bead to suggest the emerging wing pads and head.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
