Deep Minnow Stinger
Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Largemouth Bass · Walleye · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard streamer/saltwater hook with rear stinger hook, 1/0-4
- Thread White 3/0
Materials
- Eyes Silver/red material (Lead or brass dumbbell eyes)
- Stinger Hook n/a (Short-shank hook on wire or braid loop)
- Belly White uni stretch (Bucktail (tied on top, rides down))
- Flash Pearl/silver flashabou (Krystal Flash or Flashabou, a few strands)
- Wing Chartreuse or olive micro tubing (Bucktail over the flash)
How to tie it
- Mount the front hook and lash a short-shank stinger hook to the rear on a wire or braid loop, riding point-up to match the finished fly.
- Bind dumbbell eyes on top of the shank about one eye-width back from the hook eye. Mounting them on top makes the fly ride point-up and hook-guard.
- Behind the eyes, tie a clump of white bucktail on TOP of the shank; when the fly flips over, this becomes the belly.
- Add a few strands of pearl or silver flash the length of the wing.
- Ahead of the eyes, tie a clump of chartreuse or olive bucktail on top for the back, sweeping it over the eyes.
- Figure-8 thread around the eyes to lock everything, build a small head, and whip finish.
- Cement the head.
