Mount the Togens 3x heavy 1x short Scud hook, start the Classic Waxed Black 18/0 thread a little back from the eye, and tie in the 0.1mm Silver Wire.
Tie in two strands of Togens Chronie Skin Holo Red on top of the shank for the flashback.
Spin the bobbin counter-clockwise to flatten the thread and wrap a smooth body down the shank, going quite far down the bend; check the far side is smooth too.
Invert the hook in the vise. Take a couple of wraps, pull the flash over, place one wrap on top of it, then bring the thread back and in front of it; this stops the flash slipping when it is pulled up the shank later. Return the hook upright.
Continue building the thread body back up the shank with a slight taper.
Optionally put a very small amount of super glue on the body. Pull the flash forward over the top and take three wraps to lock it in while holding it on top, then a couple of strong wraps in front and snip the excess. Throw in a half hitch and move the thread aside.
Rib forward with the silver wire on the rotary; aim for seven to eight ribs. At the front take a couple more turns of wire for a little weight, tie off and break the wire away.
Bring the thread back over the wire and build a small thread base. Wax the thread with cobbler's wax (the Micro Glint is slippery), tie in six strands of Semperfli Micro Glint Pearl on top, and bind them back to where the thorax will start, keeping space at the front for the head.
Twist a tight, small noodle of Semperfli Superfine Dubbing Black (re-twist if it loosens) and wrap a small thorax, staying well back from the head.
Wax the thread again, pull the Micro Glint over the thorax as a wing case, tie it off and take one wrap in front to lock it. Split the strands three to each side as wing buds, hold them back and slightly up, and wrap over them to build a black head.
Wax the thread once more (no head cement is used, so the wax holds the whip) and whip finish.
