Slide the cone to the eye, wind about 10 wraps of lead wire behind it and pinch off the ends. Start the thread at the lead, lock it in place with wraps behind and through it.
Tie in one clump of rusty brown marabou as a tail about one shank-length long, using the butts to help fill in behind the lead.
Tie one strand of peacock Flashabou along the near side, bring it around to the far side, secure, and clip both just past the tail.
Tie in the long piece of copper brown wire, then double the 12-inch piece of Straggle String over the thread and tie it in at the rear alongside the wire. Bring the thread forward.
Twist the doubled Straggle String together and wrap it up the shank in touching turns to the cone. Tie off and trim.
Size both hackles so the fibers reach just below the hook, trim each tip into a small anchor, and tie in the brown feather first, then the olive grizzly in front of it, at the front of the body.
Wind both feathers together at the front, then palmer them rearward in open turns, about five, keeping the olive in front, down to the tail.
Trap the feather tips at the rear with the wire, taking two turns of wire there to lock them, then counter-wind the wire forward, wiggling it through the hackle. Tie off at the front with a couple of extra turns and helicopter the wire off.
Snip the trapped feather tips at the rear, sweep all the hackle back, and build a small black collar behind the cone.
