Start the Purple Silk Thread on the Partridge Grab Pupa hook with a jam knot just behind the eye, leaving room for the hackle and head. Go over the tag end a few times and snip it away.
Let the silk flatten out and wrap it down the shank in touching turns to just past the bend.
Spin the bobbin clockwise to cord the silk, then wind the corded thread back up the body as a rib.
At the front, take a couple of extra wraps to build a small thorax, give it one whip finish, pull it super tight and snip it clean.
Start the black thread on the hook right in front of the purple thorax.
Prepare the Hungarian Partridge feather: strip the fluff from the base and any barbs you will not use. Grip the tip in hackle pliers and stroke everything back, then trim the tip to a small triangular anchor for the tie-in.
Wax both sides of the thread and take a wrap or two so the wax is already on the hook. Shorten the thread right down to the hook, catch the anchor triangle, pull the feather back a tiny bit and take a few wraps.
Clip the hackle pliers to the stem, wet your fingers and gently sweep the fibers back. This is a spider, so take only one to one and a half turns; wiggle the thread through the hackle, take a second turn, then one thread wrap in front. Get the scissors in close and snip the stem out without cutting other barbs.
Sweep the fibers back, build a small black head, check the hackle sits evenly all the way round, whip finish and snip clean.
