Materials
Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (3 strands for trailing shuck)
Semperfli Perfect Quill Medium, transparent (1 quill for body)
Kapok dubbing (or black Superfine) Black dubbing (Tiny pinch for thorax)
Grizzly hackle Natural hackle (1 feather)
UV resin or head cement Clear uv resin (Thin coat on body)
Black marker Black ostrich herl (To color thread at head)
How to tie it
Start the thread and run it down to above the hook point. Tie in 3 strands of pearl Krystal Flash on top and bind them well down the bend for the trailing shuck.
Invert or angle the hook slightly, then tie in the synthetic quill on top with its sticky side facing out (so the sticky side lands against the hook when wrapped), binding it down to the flash.
Wrap the quill up the shank with each turn slightly overlapping the last, forming even segments that thicken toward the front. Tie off and trim.
Apply a small drop of thin UV resin or head cement over the quill body for durability and cure. You barely want it to show.
Prepare the grizzly hackle by snipping the fibers short on either side of the bare stem at the tie-in point (leaving stubble helps it hold), and tie it in shiny side facing forward. Wax the thread first.
Dub a tiny black kapok thorax.
Palmer the hackle forward from the back of the thorax in side-by-side turns, about five, and tie off; trim the stem.
Color the white thread black with a marker, build a small black head and whip finish twice.
