Mount the Ahrex Emerger Barbless hook, start the Semperfli Spyder Waxed White 18/0 thread and run it down to about the hook point.
Take three strands of Krystal Flash Pearl, tie them in on top of the shank and bind them well down round the bend for the trailing shuck. Give the thread a small spin and bring it back up.
Tilt the hook slightly in the vise to make the tie-in easier. Snip a length of Semperfli Perfect Quills Medium Transparent and tie it in on top with the sticky side facing you (outward), so the sticky side lands against the hook as it wraps. Bind it down to the Krystal Flash and bring the thread back up.
Wrap the quill up the shank, taking your time on the first turn; overlap each turn slightly so it forms even segments that get thicker toward the front. Tie it off, work the thread back over the last quill wrap, set the hook upright again and snip the quill.
Optionally apply one small drop of thin UV resin to the body for strength and give it a quick cure with the light.
Wax the thread. Prepare the Whiting Farms Grizzly hackle by snipping the barbs on either side of the stem at the tie-in point, leaving tiny stubs on each side so the stem does not pull out. Tie it in with good wraps, shiny side of the feather facing you, which is forward.
Dub a small amount of Kapok Dubbing Black onto the thread (pull off any excess) and wrap the thorax.
Wind the hackle: first turn at the back, then side-by-side turns going forward, about five in all. Tie it off and snip the stem.
Colour the white thread black with a marker for a small black head, whip finish twice, pull it good and tight and snip the thread.
Trim the shuck to about the body length, up to the hackle; Deb does not like it as long as a full body or one and a half bodies.
