Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2-3 strands for thorax)
Brahma hen feather Badger march brown (or any brown soft hackle) (1)
UV resin or head cement Clear uv resin (Drop on butt and head)
How to tie it
Start the fluorescent red thread and wrap it about halfway down the bend to form the hot spot butt. Whip finish, trim, and seal the butt with a drop of UV resin or cement; cure.
Attach the brown thread and bind down to the butt, leaving a little red showing.
Tie in the copper wire rib at the rear.
Strip about 5 pheasant tail fibers, cut the tips flush, tie them in at the rear and bring the thread to where the thorax will start (about the 70% point).
Wind the pheasant tail forward toward yourself (counter-wound), tie off, trim, and throw a half hitch.
Wind the wire rib the opposite direction from the pheasant tail in even open turns, tie off and twist the wire free.
Tie in 2-3 peacock herls (brittle tips snipped off), leaving a full hook-eye length bare at the front. Twist them lightly and wind a nice thorax; tie off, trim, and add a half hitch.
Prepare a speckled Brahma hen feather: measure so the fibers reach the rear of the body, strip everything below that, snip the tip into a small triangle anchor, wax the thread and tie the anchor in.
Sweep the fibers back between your fingers and wind one and a half to two turns of hackle. Secure, trim, and brush the hackle so it's distributed all round.
Sweep the hackle back, build a small brown head, whip finish and add a drop of resin.
