Hackle Brahma Hen March Brown or any Brown soft hackle
How to tie it
Start the fluorescent red thread and wrap it down to about halfway round the bend for the hot spot. Whip finish, snip, coat the butt with UV resin and cure.
Attach the mocha brown thread and bind down to the butt, leaving a little red showing.
Tie in the 0.1mm Copper Wire at the rear.
Pull about five Pheasant Tail fibres off the stem, cut the tips flush and bind them in on the side at the rear. Bring the thread forward to where the thorax will start.
Wind the pheasant tail forward toward yourself (counter-wound). Tie off, snip and throw in a half hitch.
Wind the wire the opposite way to the pheasant tail, in open turns; it reinforces the body more than it shows. Tie off and break the wire away.
Snip the brittle tips off two or three Peacock Herl and tie them in, leaving a full eye-length bare at the front for the hackle and head. Twist them lightly, build the thorax, snip and add another half hitch.
Take a speckled Brahma Hen feather from the sides of the skin. Measure it against the hook to see how far back the fibres will reach, peel everything below that off, sweep down the fibres you will use and snip the tip into a small triangle anchor. Wax the thread and bind the anchor in with plenty of wraps.
Draw the fibres back between two fingers so they sweep rearward and wind one and a half to two turns. Wiggle the thread through and capture the stem, snip, then brush the hackle out so it stands all round the hook.
Sweep the hackle back, build a small brown head, whip finish and snip. Drop UV resin on the head and cure.
