Turn the hook slightly in the vise to expose the bend, start the Primrose thread and run it nearly halfway down the bend. Snip the tag.
Take a very small wisp of Pale Morning Dun Antron, trim it shorter so it is manageable, and bind it in as a trailing shuck. Snip the butts, then chip the shuck ends with the scissor blade so they are ragged rather than square.
Straighten the hook and bring the thread to about the one-third point. Tie in the 3/0 Sulphur Fluoro Brite rib and bind it down to the shuck.
Split a strand of Caddis Brown Dirty Bug Yarn in half. Tie the half strand in at the rear and wrap it up the shank as a slim body, steering it past the hook point. Tie off and snip.
Wind the rib forward in even open turns to segment the body. Tie off well and bring the thread back to that point.
Lay one Natural CDC feather on top as the underwing, tip reaching about the back of the hook. Two wraps, pull it forward a touch shorter, bind it down and snip the stem.
Take a small bunch of Natural Deer Hair, less than half the hook gape in width, clean out the underfur and stack the tips. Measure the wing to about the back of the body and trim the butts to length before tying in. Wax the thread, take two loose loops around the hair, pull tight, then wind the thread through the butts and back to where the body starts.
Dub a generous head of the Olive Dun Dubbing, building it up so it will sit the fly in the surface film.
Whip finish and snip. Brush the head out lightly with a small velcro brush so it looks messy.
