Materials
Bead Matte black (or gunmetal) bead (1, 5/64" (2mm))
Micro Glint tinsel Pearl mylar tinsel (About 8 strands for gill)
Fine wire Black, 0.1mm (1 length for rib)
Black marker Black ostrich herl (To color thorax/collar)
Brushable superglue + head cement Clear head cement (1-2 coats)
How to tie it
Slide the bead on wide hole forward. Start the steel thread at the front with about five wraps.
Take about 8 strands of pearl Micro Glint (wrap it around your fingers and cut the loops), tie the bundle in at an angle at the front, whip finish over the tie-down bump, and cut the thread.
Slide the bead over the gill to the eye and trim the gill even with the front of the hook.
Reattach the steel thread behind the bead and tie in the black wire, pulling the tag back and binding over it.
Run the wire and thread down the side of the body to the start of the curve, take one thread turn behind the wire, then spin the bobbin to flatten the thread and wrap a smooth body back up.
Build the taper: wrap back about halfway down the fly and forward again until you have a slim cigar shape. Throw a whip finish in to park the thread.
Wind the wire rib forward in about 7 even turns, tie it off behind the bead with a couple of wraps in front, and break the wire away.
Color the thread black with a marker and whip finish twice, forming a black collar behind the bead.
Coat with brushable superglue first (it keeps the steel color true), let dry, then finish with head cement, Sally Hansen or UV resin.
