Slide the bead to the eye, start the Rusty Brown thread behind it and run it to the bend.
Take a Brown Indian Hen Hackle feather and pull the tip out to leave a V of fibres. Bind the V on top at the bend and pull it to length, about the shank length or a touch shorter. Take a couple of wraps underneath the tail to hold it up on top, advance the thread and snip the stem.
Build a slight thread taper along the body, gradually thicker toward the front.
Tie in the Fine Brown Wire, binding it right back to the tail; it is wrapped last so it goes in first.
Tie the fl. orange Perdigon Body flashback strip in on top at the rear so that, folded forward, it lies flat along the back. Cover the tie-in with thread to the front.
Fold the flashback over the top, bind it down, fold the tag back and bind over it, then snip.
Wind the wire forward in about five even turns, add a couple of extra turns at the front for weight, and break it off. Bring the thread back to where the thorax will start.
Tie in the 0.8mm Copper Holo Tinsel wingcase, binding it back almost, but not quite, to the halfway point.
Tie in the Dark Brown Micro Fritz and take about four turns for the thorax, leaving a little space behind the bead for the legs. Tie off and snip.
Take a second hen feather, strip the fluff, sweep the fibres down and measure against the hook how far back the legs should reach. Strip everything below that and snip the tip, leaving about half a dozen fibres per side. Lay it on top, take two locking wraps, check the legs sit where you want, one turn in front to lock, and snip the stem.
Fold the wingcase forward between the legs, bind down and snip. Whip finish, apply a tiny bit of UV resin to the thread, whip finish again and cure.
