Slide the bead on large hole forward and start the claret thread behind it, holding the tag so the wraps butt neatly. Wrap about three-quarters of the way down the shank, spinning the bobbin counter-clockwise to flatten the thread and keep the rear slim.
Fold a short piece of red MicroGlint around the thread, slide it to the top of the shank and tie it down. Take a couple of wraps underneath, one wrap between the two strands to set a small V, then trim to a short V-tail. Just a hint.
Tie in a second piece of red MicroGlint along the top of the shank for the rib, binding it down to the tail and back up with flat touching turns.
Build a slight taper toward the front with flattened thread wraps.
Wind a tiny red butt at the rear using one or two turns of the tail tag if desired, then rib the body up in 7-8 evenly spaced turns of MicroGlint. Tie off.
Tie in the black Gel Core Micro Fritz behind the bead, color the claret thread black with a marker, and take about one and a half tight wraps of fritz as a thorax collar. Tie off and trim.
Whip finish behind the bead.
Apply a thin coat of Gulff Thinman resin to the body with a needle and cure; a second coat is optional.
