  • Thread Red 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Orange permanent marker (Small clump marabou)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (Fine chenille or dubbing)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (Oval tinsel)
  • Wing/Collar Orange over yellow (Stacked marabou plumes)
  • Flash Gold flashabou (A few strands Flashabou each side)
  • Collar Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather, wound wet-style)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread mid-shank. This is a light, unweighted swinging fly, so keep everything sparse and mobile.
  2. Tie in a short orange marabou tail, about half a shank long, plus the silver oval rib.
  3. Dub or wrap a slim black body forward to the 75% mark, then counter-wrap the rib in 5 open turns and tie off.
  4. Tie in a yellow marabou plume as an underwing, then an orange plume over it, each reaching to the tail tip.
  5. Add a few strands of gold Flashabou down each side for a little sparkle, no more.
  6. Wind a grizzly hackle as a soft wet-style collar, 2-3 turns, then sweep the fibers back.
  7. Build a neat red head and whip finish.
