Dazzle Caddis
Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved caddis/scud hook, 12-16
- Thread Olive or brown 8/0
Materials
- Bead Copper or gold slotted tungsten bead (2.5-3mm)
- Abdomen Green/olive material (Pearl or green tinsel/flash under thin dubbing)
- Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire)
- Thorax Dark brown fur (Hare's ear dubbing)
- Collar Hot orange arctic fox (Thread hot-spot, optional)
How to tie it
- Slide the bead to the eye, mount the hook and start thread behind the bead.
- Tie in the copper wire, then a length of pearl or green flash and wrap the flash forward over the rear two-thirds for a bright abdomen.
- Optionally veil the flash with a thin wisp of dubbing so it glows rather than glares. Use half the dubbing you think.
- Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 open turns to segment and protect the body, then break it off.
- Dub a buggy dark thorax up behind the bead.
- If using a hot-spot, take a few turns of hot-orange thread as a collar behind the bead.
- Whip finish behind the bead and snip. Pick out a few thorax fibers as legs.
