Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1X-short heavy nymph hook (2457), 8
  • Thread Wine UTC 140 (and 70 for body)

Materials

  • Lead 'lift kit' bars (0.030) Natural case (2 bars, 5 mm each)
  • Lead dumbbell eyes Natural dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
  • Senyo's Laser Dub (body) Fluorescent orange and brown senyo s laser dub (several clumps)
  • Loon water-based glue Clear head cement (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread behind the eye and tie in a 'lift kit' of two 5 mm bars of 0.030 lead on top of the shank with loose spiral wraps; keep them stacked and centered on top, then lock down and add water-based glue.
  2. Switch to 140 thread and mount the lead dumbbell eyes about 1 mm behind the front of the lift kit with figure-eight wraps, leaving room to finish the head; check alignment upside down, lock in, and add glue.
  3. Wrap the thread back to form the body base.
  4. With 70 thread, dub a slim football-shaped abdomen of orange-and-brown laser dub over about 5 mm at the rear, keeping the dubbing sparse enough to bury the wraps.
  5. Dub a fuller thorax/collar of laser dub up behind the eyes, sweeping the fibers back.
  6. Build a small thread head in front of the eyes, whip finish and cement.
