Classic Recipe

  • Hook North country spider, 16-18
  • Thread Orange & purple silk Pearsall's

Materials

  • Body Orange and purple silk twisted together (two-tone)
  • Dubbing Mole fur, whisper (at thorax)
  • Hackle Jackdaw or coot (1 turn)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the small spider hook and start the orange silk.
  2. Wrap the orange silk back to the bend, then lay the purple silk alongside and twist the two together into a two-tone thread.
  3. Wrap the twisted silks forward as a slim two-color body to the thorax, so the colors shift underwater like the natural's translucence.
  4. Touch a whisper of mole fur to the silk and dub a tiny thorax.
  5. Tie in a jackdaw or coot hackle by the tip and take just 1 turn, keeping it sparse and mobile.
  6. Sweep the fibers back, build a tiny head, whip finish.
