Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (2.5mm, optional)
  • Tail Brown permanent marker (Pheasant-tail fibers)
  • Abdomen Dark permanent marker (Stripped peacock or dark quill)
  • Wingcase Dark wingcase strip (Pheasant-tail fibers)
  • Thorax Amber/sulphur (Fine dubbing)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (Pheasant-tail fiber tips)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye if using one, mount the hook and start brown thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a few pheasant-tail fibers as a short tail, about half a shank long.
  3. Wrap a dark quill forward in touching turns to the 60% mark for a segmented abdomen and bind off.
  4. Tie in pheasant-tail fibers as a wingcase pointing back over the abdomen.
  5. Dub a small amber sulphur-colored thorax up to the bead.
  6. Pull the wingcase forward, bind it behind the bead, and split the tips down each side as legs.
  7. Whip finish and snip, a thin coat of UV resin over the wingcase adds durability.
