Classic Recipe
- Hook wet fly / spider hook, down-eye, 14
- Thread orange 8/0
Materials
- Silk body Orange silk (full length of shank)
- Head Peacock herl (optional) (1 strand)
- Hackle Black-and-orange marked feather from a hen red grouse (1 feather)
How to tie it
- Run the orange silk from behind the eye to above the barb, then forward two-thirds. Let the orange glow through.
- Wind a slim orange body over the rear two-thirds of the shank.
- Optionally tie in a strand of peacock herl and make two turns for a small dark head.
- Tie in the black-and-orange hen grouse feather by its tip behind the eye.
- Take 1.5 to 2 sparse turns of hackle, secure, clip the stem, stroke fibres back, whip finish and varnish.
