Slide the Gold Brass Bead onto the hook and lay down a few wraps of .010 or .015 lead wire behind it.
Start the thread and take it back to the bend, a little way down it, and build a small ball of thread there.
Even the tips of two Brown Turkey or Goose Biots and orient them to splay away from each other. Pinch them in place at half a shank long, take one loose wrap, then tighten down so the thread ball splits them into a stonefly tail. Advance the thread to the start of the lead and trim the biot butts.
Tie in the Gold Brassie Wire at the rear.
Dub the Black Stone SLF Dubbing from the tail forward, stopping just short of the bead.
Counter-wrap the wire forward through the body in open spirals and capture it at the front.
Tie in two Ginger Turkey or Goose Biots as a wing, oriented facing away from each other in a V and reaching back to just barely overextend the tail. Take a couple of wraps and trim the butts.
Pull the fibers of a Natural India Hen Back feather down to line up the tips and yank off a generous clump of about 20 fibers. Tie them in along the near side with two wraps so the legs reach back almost to the tail; if they come out too long, pull them shorter by the butts. Repeat on the far side, then trim the butt ends.
Dub a very sparse collar of the same Black Stone SLF Dubbing behind the bead, just enough to cover the thread work and build a small head.
