How to tie it
Start the dun thread in the front third of the shank and tie in two dun hackle tips as wings, slightly longer than the intended hackle; snip the butts.
Prop the wings upright with a bump of thread wraps in front, then set them semi-spent with X-wraps (two from back to front, two from front to back) spreading them 30-45 degrees.
Take the thread to the start of the bend and tie in a tail of dark dun hackle fibers from the collar feather; trim the curly butts and bind them down.
Wax the thread and dub a tight noodle of the muskrat/red wool blend, wrapping a tapered body forward to just behind the wings.
Tie in the dark dun hackle behind the wings, sized one and a half to two hook-gaps.
Wrap three to four hackle turns behind the wings, then one or two in front, using the front turns to push the wings upright.
Secure, trim the hackle tip, sweep stray fibers back, flatten a small head area, whip finish, and add a drop of head cement.
