Reference Recipe

• Hook Standard wet-fly hook, 12-14
• Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

• Tail Brown permanent marker (Brown hackle fibers)
• Body Gray flotation (Muskrat or gray fur dubbing)
• Hackle Brown hackle (Brown hen, soft)
• Wing Wood duck (Lemon wood duck flank)

How to tie it

1. Mount the hook and start brown thread at mid-shank, running it to the bend.
2. Tie in a small bunch of brown hackle fibers as the tail, about a shank length long.
3. Dub a slim tapered gray body forward to the 75% mark.
4. Tie in a soft brown hen hackle and take two or three turns, then sweep the fibers back and down.
5. Bind a wood-duck flank wing over the top, tips reaching to the tail, angled back over the body.
6. Build a small tapered head, whip finish and snip.
7. A drop of head cement on the wraps keeps the wing seated.
