Emerger · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger/scud hook, 16-20
  • Thread Gray or olive 10/0

Materials

  • Shuck Amber/brown material (Zelon or Antron fibers)
  • Abdomen Gray/olive top (Fine dubbing)
  • Shellback Dark dun wing slip (Dark fibers or Thin Skin)
  • Wing Dun microfibetts (CDC puff)
  • Thorax Dark gray red fox underfur (Fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend of the curve.
  2. Tie in a sparse trailing shuck of Zelon about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the dark shellback material at the bend, then dub a slim tapered abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Pull the dark shellback forward over the abdomen and bind it down to form the contrasting dark back.
  5. Tie in a short CDC puff wing standing up at the thorax.
  6. Dub a small dark thorax around the wing base.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and snip. The fly should hang in the film with the shuck below.
