Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2x-long dry-fly hook, 8-10
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Body Golden/amber material (2mm foam strip)
  • Underbody Amber vinyl rib medium (Fine dubbing)
  • Wing Natural case (Elk hair)
  • Indicator Orange or pink material (Poly yarn tuft)
  • Legs Barred amber rubber legs (Fine rubber)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (One feather)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at mid-shank.
  2. Bind a golden foam strip along the shank, leaving a stub at the bend, and segment it with a couple of open thread wraps.
  3. Dub a thin amber underbody forward to the thorax area.
  4. Stack and tie in an elk-hair wing reaching to the back of the foam, tips angled down over the body.
  5. Figure-8 a strand of rubber legs on each side of the thorax so they kick out.
  6. Palmer a brown hackle through the thorax, then tie in a bright poly indicator tuft standing up.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and snip, the foam and hackle keep it dancing on the surface.
