Reference Recipe

• Hook 2x-long dry-fly hook, 8-10
• Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

• Body Olive/tan heads (2mm foam strip)
• Underbody Olive ostrich herl (Dubbing)
• Wing Natural gray squirrel body fur (Elk or deer hair)
• Indicator Pink or gray material (Poly yarn tuft)
• Legs Olive barred rubber legs (Fine rubber)
• Hackle Grizzly/brown hackle (One feather)

How to tie it

1. Mount the hook and start olive thread at mid-shank.
2. Bind an olive-tan foam strip along the shank with a stub at the bend and segment it with open wraps.
3. Dub a thin olive underbody forward to the thorax.
4. Tie in a gray elk-hair wing reaching to the back of the foam, tips angled down.
5. Figure-8 fine olive rubber legs on each side of the thorax.
6. Palmer a grizzly-brown hackle through the thorax and stand up a poly indicator tuft.
7. Whip finish behind the eye and snip. Keep the profile slim for the skwala silhouette.
