Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2x-long nymph hook, 10-12
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (Bead-chain or mono)
  • Tail Olive ostrich herl (Marabou tuft, short)
  • Abdomen Olive/chartreuse material (Colored Ultra wire)
  • Wingcase Olive thin skin mottled (Thin Skin or turkey)
  • Thorax Olive ostrich herl (Hare or Ice Dub)
  • Legs Olive emu feather (Partridge or Micro Legs)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, figure-8 the eyes near the front, and run thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short olive marabou tail about a third of the shank long.
  3. Bind in a length of colored wire and wrap it forward in tight touching turns to the 60% mark for a segmented abdomen.
  4. Tie in the wingcase material pointing back over the abdomen.
  5. Dub a buggy olive thorax, working around the eyes with figure-8 wraps.
  6. Add a few partridge fibers or rubber legs along each side.
  7. Pull the wingcase forward over the thorax, bind behind the eyes, whip finish and snip.
