Materials

  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (Burnt mono)
  • Tail Olive ostrich herl (Marabou tips, short)
  • Abdomen Olive ostrich herl (Marabou wrapped)
  • Wingcase Olive/mottled wing slip (Turkey or pheasant)
  • Thorax Olive ostrich herl (Marabou dubbing loop or fur)
  • Legs Olive emu feather (Marabou fibers swept back)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and figure-8 burnt mono eyes just back from the eye, then wind thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short stub of olive marabou tips as the tail, no longer than a third of the shank.
  3. Wrap the butts of that marabou forward as a slim abdomen to the 60% mark and tie off.
  4. Tie in a mottled wingcase section pointing rearward at the front of the abdomen.
  5. Build a fuller olive marabou thorax, figure-8ing around the eyes.
  6. Sweep a few marabou fibers back along each side as legs.
  7. Draw the wingcase forward over the thorax, bind behind the eyes, whip finish and snip.
