Reference Recipe

• Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 10-12
• Thread Blue 8/0

Materials

• Extended body Bright blue material (Foam or dubbed over mono)
• Egg cluster Black ostrich herl (Small dubbing ball at rear)
• Wing Clear/dun material (Zelon or hackle tips, spent)
• Thorax Blue macaw (Fine dubbing)
• Hackle Grizzly hackle (One feather)

How to tie it

1. Mount the hook and start blue thread at the bend.
2. Dub a small tight black ball at the very rear to suggest the egg mass the female is depositing.
3. Build a slim blue extended body forward from that ball, one shank length long, and bind it along the shank.
4. Tie in spent clear wings splayed flat to each side.
5. Palmer a grizzly hackle through the wing base and figure-8 to set the wings low.
6. Dub a slim blue thorax to the eye.
7. Whip finish and snip. The black butt should ride low, touching the film.
