Wool yarn Yellow wool yarn (One full-strength strand for tail)
Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (3-4 strands each for rear and front body halves)
Rooster hackle Brown hackle (Two feathers, one slightly larger for the front)
How to tie it
Start the thread near the front and bind a strand of yellow wool yarn along the full length of the shank back to the bend, letting it extend as a short tag-style tail; trim and brush the tail out lightly.
Tie in three or four strands of peacock herl at the tail and wrap them forward to the midpoint of the shank; tie off, saving the leftover herl.
Tie in the smaller brown hackle at the midpoint and take a few turns as a mid-body hackle.
Sweep the mid hackle fibers rearward and lay them back with loose thread wraps behind, then tighter wraps in front.
Tie in the saved peacock herl and wrap the front half of the body, again parking the thread mid-bunch so stray herls stay gathered.
Tie in the second, slightly larger brown hackle at the front and wrap it as a collar.
Sweep everything back with wet fingers, build a good-sized streamer head that ramps back over the hackle bases to lay the fibers rearward, whip finish, and cement.
