Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved caddis/scud hook, 8-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (10-14 wraps)
  • Abdomen Olive or tan material (seal-sub / Ice Dub blend)
  • Rib Gold or red wire (1 strand)
  • Shellback Dark brown Thin Skin (1 strip)
  • Thorax Black / peacock herl or dubbing (dubbing, picked out)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent pink rear bump (thread band)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook, wrap 10-14 turns of lead-free wire, and start black thread.
  2. Bind a dark Thin Skin shellback and a wire rib at the bend, following the curve.
  3. Dub a fat translucent olive abdomen forward over the rear three-quarters.
  4. Dub a dark buggy thorax at the front.
  5. Pull the shellback tight over the back and bind it at the eye.
  6. Counter-wrap the wire rib forward in 6-7 even turns and helicopter off the tag.
  7. Pick out the thorax for legs, add a fluorescent pink hot-spot band, whip finish and coat the back with UV resin.
