Czech Princess Tungsten Jig

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (60-degree eye), 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper or gold slotted (1 tungsten, 3/32-1/8 in)
  • Tail Brown goose biots (1 pr, split)
  • Body Peacock herl (3-4 strands)
  • Rib Fine gold wire (1 strand)
  • Wings White goose biots (1 pr, along body)
  • Hot spot collar Fluorescent orange egg sac (thread or dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook, mount it and start black thread behind the bead.
  2. Split a pair of brown biots as a forked tail about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the gold wire rib, then wrap a peacock-herl body forward to just behind the bead.
  4. Counter-rib the gold wire forward in 5-6 turns to protect the fragile herl and tie off.
  5. Bind a white goose biot along each side, curving down the body like a Prince nymph's wings.
  6. Build a small fluorescent orange hot-spot collar behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
