Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved caddis/scud hook, 8-14
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (10-14 wraps)
  • Abdomen Amber/tan material (hare and seal-sub blend)
  • Rib Gold wire (1 strand)
  • Shellback Mottled brown Thin Skin / Medallion (1 strip)
  • Thorax Dark brown / peacock ice dub (dubbing, picked out)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent pink or orange material (thread band)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook, wrap 10-14 turns of lead-free wire, and start brown thread.
  2. Bind a mottled Thin Skin shellback and a gold wire rib at the bend along the curve.
  3. Dub a plump amber hare-and-seal abdomen forward over the rear three-quarters.
  4. Dub a dark buggy thorax at the front.
  5. Pull the shellback tight over the back and bind it at the eye.
  6. Rib the gold wire forward in 6-7 even turns over both body and shellback, then break off the tag.
  7. Pick out the thorax for legs, add a fluorescent hot-spot band at the head, whip finish and coat the back with UV resin.
