Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved caddis/scud hook, 8-14
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (10-14 wraps)
  • Abdomen Olive/caddis green (seal-sub or Ice Dub blend)
  • Rib Clear mono (1 strand)
  • Shellback Olive Scud Back (1 strip)
  • Thorax Black or dark brown material (dubbing)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent orange egg sac (thread collar)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook, lay 10-14 wraps of lead-free wire along the shank, and start olive thread.
  2. Tie in an olive Scud Back shellback strip and a mono rib at the bend, following the curve.
  3. Dub a fat translucent caddis-green abdomen over the rear three-quarters, tapering with the hook.
  4. Dub a dark thorax at the front.
  5. Stretch the shellback over the entire back and bind it at the eye.
  6. Counter-wrap the mono rib forward in 6-7 even turns for crisp segmentation and tie off.
  7. Add a fluorescent orange hot-spot collar, whip finish and glaze the back with UV resin.
