Materials
Foam body (laminated) 3 mm brown over 2 mm tan (One body cut with an MFC 'More or Less' hopper cutter)
Foam overwing Brown, 1 mm (One wing cut with a stonefly wing cutter)
Foam indicator post Orange, 1 mm (One strip cut with a small Chernobyl taper cutter)
Barred Sexi-Floss Tan barred sexi floss (Two strands for legs)
How to tie it
Glue a sheet of 3 mm brown foam to 2 mm tan foam and punch the laminated hopper body with the cutter, brown side up.
Start the thread and lay a wrapped base over the rear two-thirds of the shank, ending above the hook point.
Lay the foam body on top of the hook, tan belly down, with the tapered abdomen extending past the bend, and bind it down at the rear tie-in point with firm stacked wraps.
Advance the thread forward under the body and cinch a second segment at about the 60% point, then a third just behind the eye, forming the low-riding segmented body.
At the middle segment, tie in a strand of tan barred Sexi-Floss along each side so a leg trails back on either side and a shorter forward leg points ahead.
Cut the 1 mm brown foam overwing with the stonefly wing cutter and tie it in flat over the body at the front segment, notch facing rearward over the abdomen.
Tie a short strip of 1 mm orange foam over the wing tie-in point as an indicator post, trimming it to a stub that is visible from above.
Trim the rear legs about one shank-length long and the front legs shorter, whip finish under the foam at the head, and add a drop of glue to the final wraps.
