How to tie it
Tie in a clump of golden pheasant crest at the bend for the tail, extending about one shank-length behind the hook.
Tie in peacock herl at the bend and wrap a plump butt segment over the rear quarter of the shank.
Whip finish and cut away the black thread, tie on red thread, and build a bright red band of thread wraps ahead of the peacock butt; whip finish the red and reattach the black.
Tie in two more strands of peacock herl and wrap a second herl segment ahead of the red band, leaving the front third of the shank bare.
Tie in a wing of white calf tail sloping back over the body, the tips reaching the end of the tail.
Tie in the brown hackle by the butt at the front of the body.
Tie in a set of white rubber legs along the near side, then a matching set along the far side.
Grip the hackle with pliers, pull the rear legs back, and take a few hackle turns behind the leg tie-in; release the legs, wrap the hackle between the leg positions, then pull the legs forward and finish with a few turns at the head.
Whip finish, then trim the rear legs to reach about the wing tips and the front legs to about an inch past the hook eye.
