  • Hook Standard dry fly hook (TMC 100 style), 14-20
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Light dun wing bud (Zelon / Antron)
  • Abdomen Olive-brown material (superfine dubbing)
  • Thorax Olive ostrich herl (superfine dubbing)
  • Wing Natural yearling elk hair (1 clump, tilted)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start brown thread, laying a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a sparse light-dun Zelon trailing shuck about half a shank long, this shuck imitating the emerging caddis is Ralph Cutter's whole trigger.
  3. Dub a slim olive-brown abdomen forward over the rear half.
  4. Stack a small clump of yearling elk hair and bind it as a wing tilted back over the body, tips just past the bend, butts left standing up.
  5. Tie in a grizzly hackle just in front of the wing.
  6. Dub a short olive thorax, then wind the hackle around the tilted wing base and butts in 3-4 turns to prop the fly in the film.
  7. Tie off, whip finish a small head and cement.
