Cuda Fly

Baitfish · Barracuda · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook saltwater (TMC 811S / Gamakatsu SC15), 1/0-3/0
  • Thread fluorescent chartreuse or orange nylon floss single-strand nylon floss / 3/0

Materials

  • Tail Long synthetic hair (Super Hair / Streamer Hair), 6-9 inches (1 bunch)
  • Flash Pearl Flashabou + blue/green Krystal Flash (few strands)
  • Eyes Stick-on prismatic eyes (or orange beads) (1 pair)
  • Head Nylon floss wrapped and epoxy/UV-coated (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a floss base and tie in a long, thin tail of synthetic hair (green over olive over white, or all chartreuse) 6-9 inches long to mimic a needlefish's skinny profile.
  2. Add pearl Flashabou and a few strands of Krystal Flash down the center of the tail.
  3. Wrap a smooth head of nylon floss forward to the eye.
  4. Set prismatic stick-on eyes (or fluorescent beads) on the sides of the head.
  5. Coat the head with epoxy or UV resin to lock the eyes and make it durable against toothy strikes.
  6. Optionally rig on a short wire or heavy-mono trace. Barracuda will cut light tippet.
