Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL-3XL dry fly hook, 8-16
- Thread Fluorescent orange 8/0
Materials
- Tail Natural elk hair (1 small clump)
- Abdomen Orange or amber material (crystal/sparkle dubbing)
- Body hackle Brown or grizzly hackle (1, palmered)
- Rib Fine gold wire (1 strand (optional))
- Wing Natural elk hair (1 clump)

How to tie it
- Mount the hook and start orange thread at the bend.
- Stack and bind a short elk-hair tail about half a shank long.
- Tie in a brown hackle by the tip at the tail, then dub a sparkly crystal abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
- Palmer the hackle forward over the abdomen in 5-6 open turns and tie off (counter-wrap fine wire through it for durability if using).
- Stack a clump of elk hair and bind it as a downwing over the abdomen, tips reaching the tail, butts trimmed at the thorax.
- Tie in a grizzly hackle at the front, dub a short crystal thorax, then wind the hackle through the thorax in 4-5 turns.
- Tie off, build a small orange head, whip finish and cement.
