Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Bead Gold or copper slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Tail Marabou + Krystal Flash (full)
  • Body Crystal Chenille (Estaz) (full)
  • Hackle Saddle, palmered (1)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold or copper bead onto the hook, mount it, and start thread behind the bead.
  2. Run thread to the bend and tie in a full marabou tail about one shank long, adding a few strands of Krystal Flash each side.
  3. At the tail, tie in a saddle hackle by the tip and catch in a length of Crystal Chenille (Estaz).
  4. Wrap the Estaz forward in touching turns to just behind the bead, stroking the fibers back each turn, and tie off.
  5. Palmer the saddle hackle forward through the body in 5-6 open evenly spaced turns and tie off behind the bead.
  6. Snip the hackle tip, build a thread collar behind the bead, whip finish and varnish.
