Crystal Bristol Viva Boobie

Egg · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook short-shank booby/wide-gape hook, 10
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Eyes/float Paired closed-cell foam booby eyes (1 pair)
  • Tail Fluorescent chartreuse/lime marabou (Viva tail) (1 tuft)
  • Flash Pearlescent flash / Crystal Hair (few strands)
  • Body Peacock or black ice/peacock dubbing (as needed)
  • Thread hot spot Black (optional fluoro butt) (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and lash a pair of foam booby eyes crossways at the front so the fly floats up nose-first. These floats are what lift the pattern off the bottom.
  2. Run the thread to the bend and tie in a bright chartreuse marabou Viva tail about a hook-length long.
  3. Add a few strands of pearl flash over the tail for extra sparkle.
  4. Dub a plump peacock/black body forward from the bend to just behind the booby eyes, keeping it buggy.
  5. Build a neat thread head between and behind the eyes, whip finish and varnish.
