Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 10-14

Materials

  • Tail PT fibers (short)
  • Body Pheasant tail (wrapped)
  • Rib Copper wire (fine)
  • Thorax Peacock or dark dubbing (small)
  • Hackle Brown or greenwell hen (1-2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet hook and run brown thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short sparse bunch of pheasant tail fibers as a tail, then catch in fine copper wire for the rib.
  3. Wrap 4-5 pheasant tail fibers forward as a slim segmented body to the thorax area and tie off.
  4. Counter-rib the copper wire forward in open turns to armor the body and secure.
  5. Dub a small ball of peacock or dark dubbing for the thorax.
  6. Tie in a brown or greenwell hen hackle by the tip and take 1-2 soft turns, sweeping the fibers back.
  7. Build a small head, whip finish and varnish.
