Crostons Bung Buzzer
Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook barbless buzzer/grub hook, 12-14
- Thread black 8/0
Materials
- Bead Small tungsten bead (~2.5mm), sized to load the drop-back bung (1)
- Body Black tying thread or stripped quill, coated (as needed)
- Rib Fine coloured wire or holographic tinsel (Viva green / hot colour) (1 strand)
- Cheeks/breathers Fluorescent tag or small breathers (Viva/Wildcard colour) (small tuft)
- Coating UV resin over body (as needed)
How to tie it
- Seat a small tungsten bead at the head. The fly is precisely weighted so the number of flies matches the coloured dots on Croston's Drop Back Bung.
- Start thread and lay a slim smooth base along the hook.
- Tie in the wire/tinsel rib at the rear, then build a slim buzzer body of thread or quill forward.
- Rib the body in 5-7 even open turns for segmentation, then tie off and break the rib.
- Add a small fluorescent tag or breather at the head as the trigger point (Viva green or Wildcard colour).
- Coat the body with UV resin and cure for a slim, glossy, durable buzzer; whip finish at the head.
