Classic Recipe

  • Hook barbless jig/nymph hook, 16-18
  • Thread olive or black 10/0

Materials

  • Bead Oversized slotted tungsten bead (3.0-3.5mm) (1)
  • Tail Coq de leon fibres (5-7 fibres)
  • Body Pheasant tail or dark thread (as needed)
  • Rib Fine gold or copper wire (1 strand)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent orange thread collar (few turns)
  • Coating Thin UV resin (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the deliberately oversized slotted tungsten bead behind the eye, both bead size and body are pushed heavy to maximise sink rate; this is a 'bomb' anchor perdigon.
  2. Start thread and tie in a short coq de leon tail at the bend.
  3. Tie in the wire rib, then build a slim tapered body of pheasant tail or thread forward to behind the bead.
  4. Counter-rib with the wire in 4-5 open turns for flash and durability, then tie off and break.
  5. Wind a bright fluorescent orange hot-spot collar right behind the bead as the trigger.
  6. Coat the body with thin UV resin and cure for a slick, fast-sinking finish; whip finish behind the bead.
