Croston's Euro Jig Minnow

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook heavy barbless jig hook, 8-10
  • Thread olive, black or tan to match body 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Slotted tungsten bead (3.8mm) (1)
  • Tail/wing Marabou or slim zonker (olive, black, natural) (1 clump/strip)
  • Body Ice dubbing or thin flashy dubbing (as needed)
  • Flash Pearl or UV flash (few strands)
  • Hot spot/tag Fluorescent orange thread or dubbing (few turns)
  • Collar Soft dubbing or CDC (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted tungsten bead behind the eye of the heavy jig hook so it fishes point-up and jigs on the drop.
  2. Start thread and tie in a slim marabou or zonker tail/wing about a shank-and-a-half long for a baitfish silhouette with lots of movement.
  3. Add a few strands of flash along the tail, then dub a slim flashy body forward, keeping it lean so the fly sinks fast.
  4. Wind a fluorescent orange hot-spot tag or collar as a trigger point.
  5. Form a small soft dubbing or CDC collar behind the bead for a minnow head and water push.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add head cement.
