Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook heavy barbless jig hook, 8-10
- Thread olive, black or tan to match body 6/0
Materials
- Bead Slotted tungsten bead (3.8mm) (1)
- Tail/wing Marabou or slim zonker (olive, black, natural) (1 clump/strip)
- Body Ice dubbing or thin flashy dubbing (as needed)
- Flash Pearl or UV flash (few strands)
- Hot spot/tag Fluorescent orange thread or dubbing (few turns)
- Collar Soft dubbing or CDC (small pinch)
How to tie it
- Seat the slotted tungsten bead behind the eye of the heavy jig hook so it fishes point-up and jigs on the drop.
- Start thread and tie in a slim marabou or zonker tail/wing about a shank-and-a-half long for a baitfish silhouette with lots of movement.
- Add a few strands of flash along the tail, then dub a slim flashy body forward, keeping it lean so the fly sinks fast.
- Wind a fluorescent orange hot-spot tag or collar as a trigger point.
- Form a small soft dubbing or CDC collar behind the bead for a minnow head and water push.
- Whip finish behind the bead and add head cement.
